What are the dates of the next festival?

February 7th and February 8th, 2009.

Are there awards and cash prizes?

Yes. The prestigious, beautifully crafted Golden Aces Awards will be presented to the best film in each of the main competitive categories along with Special Jury Prizes and the Orson Welles Award for the Best First-Time Filmmaker. Cash prizes will be given for for the Grand Jury Award for Best Feature, the Jury Award for Best Short as well as the top three finalists in the screenplay competition.

What is the submission fee?

  • Early Bird - Short: $25 / Feature: $35

  • Deadline - Short: $30 / Feature: $40

  • Late Deadline - Short: $35 / Feature: $45

What is the deadline?

  • Early Bird - June 30th

  • Deadline – October 31st

  • Late Deadline – November 30th

  • Extended Deadline - December 31st

How long is a short film?

Films under 50 minutes or less are considered short films.

How long is a feature film?

Films 50 minutes and over are considered feature films.

What are the categories of films accepted?

LVIFF accepts films of all categories including feature, documentary, short, animated, experimental, student, Nevada, television pilots, screenplays, musicals, and music videos of any genre or form.

How are the films selected for the festival?

Films submitted to the Festival are reviewed by our programming department, which evaluates each film, looking for the best in new American and International cinema.

Is there a student fee?

Students may subtract $10 from their entry fee.  Please include a photocopy of your student ID.

Is it a postmarked deadline or received by deadline?

The submissions deadline is a postmarked by deadline.

Do you accept rough cuts/work-in-progress?

Yes, we will review and consider rough cuts and works-in-progress. Please note on the submission what elements are still being worked on.

Should I send a press kit?

No, please do not send press kits.

Can I still submit if my film has distribution or has aired on television?

Yes.

Do you accept music videos?

Yes.

Does my film need to be a World Premiere?

A film does not have to be a premiere to play in the festival but premiere films are encouraged.

Can I submit more then one film?

Yes, but each film must have its own submission form filled out and fee paid.

Do you accept multiple submissions on one DVD?

Yes, see above. On VHS, only ONE film per tape please.

Will my tape or DVD be returned?

No. Submissions will not be returned.

When will I find out if my film is accepted?

We notify filmmakers if they are accepted into the festival approximately one month prior to the festival.

Do I have to pick the category I want to submit to?

No, we will select which category each film plays in.

How am I eligible for the Nevada Filmmakers section?

A film is eligible for our Nevada Filmmakers section if any of the key filmmakers (director, writer, producer, lead actor) currently lives in Nevada, was born in the state, or if the film was primarily shot in the state. Your film will be considered for all of the festival’s sections though.

What are the acceptable screening / exhibition formats for your festival?

For the submission process, we can screen DVD’s (Region 0 or 1), VHS (NTSC) tapes, or mini-DV tapes. During the festival, we can screen films on 35mm and video.

Can I get confirmation that you received my submission?

Yes, please send a self-addressed stamped postcard.

What additional information do I need to provide for submission as a student filmmaker?

Please include a photocopy of your school ID.

If my film is not chosen, may I speak with a programmer for notes or feedback?

Unfortunately due to time constraints and the large number of submissions, we are unable to give individual feedback.
